Nobody ever said that catching a March bass or two on a lure was going to be easy, but after talking about fishing for two days solid at The Big One Show last weekend, I was primed for it. If I am honest I got back home on Sunday night literally talked out, but I was seriously pumped up for my first bass fishing session of March 2023………….
I had half an eye on heading out over the high water early Monday evening, but the webcam was resolutely refusing to show much life to the sea so I decided to trust in Tragic Seaweed and head out first thing on Tuesday morning to fish over a bit of reef on the first of the ebb tide. Just me and Storm and a quiet bit of coastline which was bouncing away a fair bit more than I could have hoped for. I guess Tragic Seaweed was erring on the side of caution for about the first time ever. I was fishing by about 5.45am, full of confidence that Tuesday morning was the session to break my March duck.

But it didn’t work. With all the positivity I felt from such a good couple of days at the show I was hoping that at least one miserable little bass might take pity on me and grab my soft plastic, but it wasn’t to be. Swine fish. I took a few shots of myself fishing with a rather interesting lure rod which I will review in due course but which I had initially waggled and left it sitting in a corner until that APIA Vivogue from last week got me thinking about more forgiving rod tips all over again. The weather is really on the change now so I am interested to see what a lot more life to the water out on the open coast might do for my chances of nailing my first ever March bass on a lure in the UK. I am not giving up…………….
